Skunk Works is often used to describe any team that works outside the regular organisational structure to develop something new. The story of Skunk Works can be traced back to 1943, when Lockheed Aircraft Corporation was hired by the US War Department to secretly build a high-speed fighter aircraft that would counter the rapidly growing German threat.
