Cartwrights Waste Disposal

Growing Pains

Cartwrights Waste Disposal has specialised in the delivery of Integrated Waste Management Solutions and Skip Hire for over 35 years. They support clients of all sizes throughout Shropshire and beyond, in their aim to dispose of waste in an environmentally safe and controlled manner.

The Client:

Cartwrights Waste Disposal

The Challenge:

Manage IT infrastructure expansion. Restore faith in managed IT service providers (MSPs)

The Solution:

Be Reactive. Be Proactive. Communicate clearly. Price fairly. Treat managed IT as a partnership not a contractual obligation.

The Result:

A reliable, secure, cost-effective and updated IT infrastructure that can grow with the business.

THE PROBLEM…

In 2016, Cartwrights’ reliance on IT increased with the business growing and modernising. They needed a Managed IT Services Provider (MSP) having outgrown their IT maintenance person.

Unfortunately this was the service they got from their provider at the time:

  • Support issues ignored for days on end – with the MSP hiding behind the automated response of a ticket being opened covering their SLA agreement
  • Anything that couldn’t be resolved remotely meant that systems had to be sent to London and back. This cost time and money to organise, and left staff unable to work while waiting
  • Extortionate mark-ups on all equipment and services offered
  • Locked into a three-year agreement with threats of legal action for wanting to leave despite the unacceptable service.

Cartwrights were legally permitted to change service provider, but had lost faith in IT outsourcing – however they knew they needed it to streamline their business and help them grow.

THE SOLUTION…

Word of mouth. Cartwrights were advised by other business owners to have an informal meeting with Skunkworks IT.

Over a cup of tea or coffee (probably a bit of both!) Skunkworks IT quickly identified Cartwrights’ IT requirements, however building trust takes more time and was of course a high priority for them.

Part of building that trust was having reactive and proactive IT strategy advice and issue resolution close to hand, not several hours or postal services away, and delivered by friendly, smiling engineers.

THE RESULT…

It’s been two years now and the Skunkworks IT and Cartwrights partnership, based on clear communication, has covered every aspect of their IT infrastructure:

  • Full remote and onsite desktop/user support
  • Leased Line Internet Connectivity
  • Unified Threat Management (UTM) enterprise WatchGuard Firewalls
  • Cloud Managed Switches and Access Points
  • Full offsite backup and Disaster Recovery Strategy
  • Enterprise grade Anti-Virus deployment
  • Cloud-based Digital VoIP platform
  • Eliminating single points of failure
